THE POSITION

Under supervision performs functional tests on industrial apparatus and accessories. Maintains an assigned cleaning area. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS of the job include, but are not limited to the following: tests, repairs, and calibrates temperature, flow, level, pressure transmitters and recorders, PH meters, automatic water analyzers, and electro-chemical gas analyzers) for stack gas analysis. Makes periodic tests to obtain operating data on boilers, steam turbines, gas turbines, methane gas engine systems, and pumps. Assumes responsibility for ensuring the duties of the position are performed in a safe, efficient manner. Carry out daily water testing in relation to plant process. Maintain department equipment inventory and housekeeping duties. Performs other related duties as assigned or as the situation requires.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities

Knowledge of: Industrial Instrumentation and electrical circuits for Instrumentation systems; the basic principles of physics, chemistry, algebra, electronics, pneumatics, and hydraulics relevant safety laws impacting the industrial work place.

Ability to: use a computer interface for troubleshooting and calibration; test, maintain and repair power plant electronic and pneumatic instruments, including meters, gauges, controls, recording instruments, thermometers, analyzers, and regulators; perform routine and complex tests on waters, lift and carry tools and equipment of the trade; prepare efficiency and analysis reports, and maintain logs and inventories of chemical and spare parts; handle unexpected changes on the job, such as new schedules or new routines.

Ability to read, write, and comprehend directions in English; effectively communicate in English; interpret laboratory test reports of chemicals and materials used in industrial work place.

OTHER CHARACTERISTICS
Willingness to: work on a rotating shift basis; work overtime as requested; assume responsibility for maintaining a safe working environment.
EXPERIENCE
Two years operating experience in a high pressure steam electric generating plant and gas turbine plant, or three years in water testing and maintenance of gauges and instruments.
EDUCATION/TRAINING
Graduation from high school or GED or CHSPE certificate, supplemented by courses in physics, chemistry, algebra, computer programming and industrial instrumentation.
LICENSE

Valid California Class C Driver's License is required.

An equivalent combination of experience, education and/or training may substitute for the listed minimum requirements.
PROMOTIONAL ELIGIBILITY

Any City of Glendale employee who meets the minimum qualifications for this position, has completed probation or six months of City employment and is occupying a permanent full-time classification on file in the Human Resources Office. Hourly City employees may be considered, provided that they furnish proof of continuous employment immediately preceding the final filing date, which would equal a minimum of six months of full-time service or 1040 part-time hours. (Civil Service Rule VIII 4-E).
SELECTION PROCESS

The examination will consist of an evaluation – qualifying, written exam – pass/fail, and/or an oral interview worth 100%.
